Last week the Porsche 718 Boxster made its American premiere at the New York Auto Show, just a few weeks after its world debut in Geneva earlier this month.
”In its 718 Boxster, Porsche is deliberately revisiting the concept of the legendary 718 mid-engine sports car. With its lightweight construction, strong four cylinder flat engine and precise chassis, it won numerous international races in tine 1950s and 1960s,” says Porsche.
The 718 name harks back to Porsche’s mid-engine racing machines from the 1950s to 1960s. With the new 718 Boxster drivers will be floored with the four-cylinder turbo’s boxer engine.
With the new 718 Boxster you will have the choice between two trims, a 2.0-liter 296 horsepower base model, and a 2.5 liter 345-horsepower “S”. In both of them you will get a 6-speed manual transmission that sends all that power to the rear wheels. But if you want a to be a little quicker, there is an option for the 7-speed PDK, which will make the zero to sixty 0.2 seconds faster.
The 718 Boxster can reach a speed of 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, 0.8 second faster than its predecessor. While the 718 Boxster S, is slightly faster and can achieve the same speed in only 4 seconds.
Along with the new engine the Boxster has also received a facelift with new headlights, taillights, bumpers and some updates to the interior, like a new instrument panel and a better infotainment system.
