To say that we here at Porsche Birmingham excited for the release of the 2017 718 Boxster, the German automaker's all-new rear-wheel-drive roadster, would be a massive understatement.

In fact, we're so enamored by the 718 Boxster that we feel words quite simply do not do it justice.

So, instead, we turn your attention to the clip below. Tag along with the fine folks at MotorWeek, as they take this drop-top dynamo for a test drive:

Though the 718 Boxster's base engine -- a 300-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder -- is certainly impressive in its own right, it's the drivetrain of the top-tier S trim that truly elevates the convertible's performance chops to the next level.

Available with your choice of either six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic, this turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder kicks out a colossal 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. The power boost is also evident in its 0-to-60 mph sprint time. When had with the PDK gearbox and Sport Chrono package, for instance, the 718 Boxster S will do the deed in just 4.0 seconds flat.
