The 2017 racing season can officially begin now that the 2017 Rolex 24 at Daytona is complete. The Rolex 24 at Daytona is one of the most prestigious racing events in the world of endurance racing, equal in stature to the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans; the Porsche GT Team was very well-prepared for the season-opening round of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, taking home a hard-won 2nd place trophy, second only to the Ford GT which won by a very narrow margin. This was the supercar's first race of the season, so second place is still a remarkable showing for the newly debuted Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by the inimitable team of Patrick Pilet (France), Dirk Werner (Germany) and Frédéric Makowiecki (France). Pilet, the driver behind the wheel in the last turn stated "I'm never happy with second…I'm proud of the work the guys did our first time out…I was glad I was able to maintain second for Porsche." There are surely more great things to come and victories on the horizon for the Porsche 911 GT3 R team, and drivers can find the spirit of racing and performance behind every Porsche in our showroom.
